Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need teaching or mentoring experience?
For 1:1 conversation practice and mentoring, no formal experience is needed—your language fluency or professional background is your qualification. Teaching structured courses benefits from some experience, but we provide materials and support.
What's the minimum time commitment?
For 1:1 programs (Language Connect, Mentors for Ukraine), even one hour per month makes a real difference. Teaching and TEEI team roles typically require more regular commitment—we'll discuss what works during onboarding.
Can I volunteer from anywhere in the world?
Yes. Most roles are 100% remote and timezone-flexible. The Buddy Program is the only exception—it's in-person in Norwegian cities.
Is it safe and private?
Yes. All 1:1 sessions happen inside our platform via integrated video. You don't need to share personal contact details. TEEI verifies all participants before they're approved.
Can my company participate?
Absolutely. Many corporate teams volunteer together as part of CSR and skills-based volunteering programs. TEEI can provide engagement reports and coordinate internal campaigns for your team.
I have skills but limited time—can I still help?
Yes. TEEI team roles often include project-based options. Even a few hours on a specific project—a design, a translation, a piece of research—can make a real difference.
What languages are most needed?
English is most requested for both conversation practice and teaching. German, French, Spanish, Polish, and Portuguese are also in high demand. But any language has learners waiting—if you're fluent, there's someone who needs you.
What happens after I apply?
You'll receive a confirmation email. TEEI reviews applications within 24–48 hours. Once approved, you'll get onboarding instructions specific to your volunteer role and can start right away.
