Introduction
In February 2022, when the war in Ukraine began, thousands of students and professionals found their education disrupted overnight. Universities closed, jobs disappeared, and millions were displaced. Yet in the midst of this tragedy, a digital lifeline emerged.
Today, thanks to our partnership with DataCamp, over 10,000 Ukrainian learners have access to world-class data science education—completely free of charge. This milestone represents more than just numbers; it represents 10,000 individuals reclaiming their futures through education.
Key Takeaways
- 10,000+ Ukrainian students enrolled since February 2022
- 78% completion rate – three times the industry average
- 45% of graduates secured new tech jobs within 6 months
- Partnership extended through 2026 with expansion to 15,000 students
The Challenge
Crisis Context
When the Russian invasion began, Ukraine’s education system faced unprecedented disruption:
- 267 universities forced to close or operate remotely
- 5.3 million refugees fled to neighboring countries
- 80% of displaced professionals unable to practice their careers
- Critical need for digital skills to access remote work opportunities
Traditional solutions—scholarships, in-person training, or relocation programs—simply couldn’t scale fast enough to meet this humanitarian crisis. We needed something revolutionary.

Impact Stories
Real People, Real Transformation
Anna’s Journey from Teacher to Data Analyst
Anna Kovalenko was an English teacher in Kyiv when the war began. With two young children, she fled to Poland, arriving in Warsaw with just two suitcases and her laptop.
“I couldn’t teach in Poland—my certifications weren’t recognized, and I didn’t speak Polish well enough,” Anna recalls. “But I had always been curious about data. I thought, maybe this is my chance to start over.”
DataCamp didn't just teach me Python and SQL. It gave me hope. Every completed lesson was proof that I could rebuild my life, that I wasn't just a victim of war—I was a professional with valuable skills.
Today, Anna works as a Data Analyst for a German e-commerce company, earning more than she did as a teacher. She’s also mentoring 12 other Ukrainian refugees through our program.
Oleksandr’s Career Transformation
Oleksandr Petrov had spent 15 years as a mechanical engineer in Kharkiv. When his factory was destroyed in the bombardment, he knew he couldn’t rebuild the same career in a war zone.
“I needed skills that could travel with me,” Oleksandr explains. “Digital skills that worked anywhere with internet.”
Through DataCamp, Oleksandr completed:
- 8 courses in data science and machine learning
- 4 portfolio projects analyzing industrial efficiency data
- 3 certifications in Python, R, and SQL
Within 5 months, he secured a remote position with a US-based manufacturing analytics firm at $65,000 USD—almost triple his previous salary.
The hardest part wasn't learning the technical skills. It was believing I could do it at age 42, starting completely fresh. But the DataCamp community and TEEI mentors never let me doubt myself.
Kateryna’s Story: From Unemployment to Machine Learning Engineer
Kateryna Bondar graduated with a degree in mathematics just as the pandemic hit in 2020. Then came the war, and her job search in Ukraine became impossible.
Through our DataCamp program, Kateryna:
- Completed the Machine Learning Engineer career track (14 courses)
- Built a portfolio on GitHub with 6 ML projects
- Participated in Kaggle competitions, finishing in top 10%
- Networked through DataCamp community forums
Result? Hired by a London-based fintech startup at £55,000 + equity. She’s now leading a team of 3 junior ML engineers.
I tell every Ukrainian student: war destroyed our country, but it cannot destroy our potential. DataCamp proved that talent has no borders.
