Far beyond a mere statistic, this accomplishment reflects thousands of personal journeys toward rebuilding lives unexpectedly disrupted by conflict.
The Bridge of Understanding: Language as a Pathway to New Beginnings
Since its inception, Language Connect for Ukraine has addressed one of the most fundamental challenges of displacement: communication. By pairing Ukrainian learners with dedicated volunteer tutors worldwide, the program offers personalized language instruction that unlocks opportunities for employment, education, and community integration.
“Language isn’t just about words—it’s about belonging,” notes Henrik Røine, Executive Director of TEEI. “When someone can express their needs, share their expertise, or simply connect with neighbors in their host country, they reclaim a piece of their independence. Each of our 5,000 learners represents a story of resilience and determination that fuels our ongoing commitment.”

Olena, 32, from Kharkiv
Olena arrived in Germany with robust technical skills yet limited German proficiency. “I could code in five programming languages, but couldn’t ask for directions to the grocery store,” she recalls. After three months with her Language Connect mentor, Olena secured a position at a Berlin tech company.
“My mentor did more than teach me German—she helped me reclaim my professional identity.”
Dmytro, 45, from Kyiv
Dmytro utilized English sessions through Language Connect to pivot into remote work with an international firm. “Learning business English restored my financial stability and allowed me to support my family,” he shares.
“My mentor understood the exact terminology I needed for my field.”
Anna, 19, from Odesa
Anna saw her university studies abruptly halted by conflict. Through intensive French tutoring with Language Connect, she earned acceptance to continue her education in France. “My tutor reviewed my application essays and prepared me for my admission interview,” Anna explains.
“He did more than teach me a language—he helped me save my dreams.”
